Chamber Choir Ireland and the Irish Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Cormac McCarthy, gave the world premiere of Eoghan Desmond’s 'Amra Choluim Chille' on 15 March 2023. Composed as part of the composer's PhD in Composition at the University of Aberdeen, the 45 minute piece had its beginnings in a commission from Christ Church Cathedral choir, for an anthem in Irish for Evensong on the feast of St. Columba. Eoghan selected the sixth century text, Amra Choluim Chille, choosing the third stanza of the poem for that commission. It now exists as the third movement of the larger work.

The performance took place in front of a very appreciative full house in Dublin City University All Hallows campus and there was a tangible sense of of the unveiling of a new large-scale work of real significance in the Irish language.
