A Sea Symphony - Edward Elgar
A Sea Symphony - Edward Elgar
for SATB choir
The complete vocal score with Piano accompaniment for Ralph Vaughan Williams’, 'A Sea Symphony' completed in 1909, is a vast work inspired by, and based on, four poems by Walt Whitman that Williams fashioned into a vast score containing some of his finest choral writing and a highlight of its era. It is non-ecclesiastical work and has a humanist, agnostic viewpoint with a broad, general theme of the Human Soul being a vessel cruising the oceans and seas of life.
This suite for Soprano and Baritone Soli, SATB chorus and, originally, Orchestra, is a varied work that includes elements of Sea shanties and noble pomp in creating a majestic andevocativerepresentation of the sea.
